Food Processing – Douglas-Coffee County has a rich agricultural history and an agribusiness supply chain that makes the area ideal for food manufacturers and distributors. Many food processors emphasize sourcing locally, and they find Douglas-Coffee County to be especially suitable for developing such relationships. Coffee County farmers produce the eighth highest annual farm gate value in the state, with the top crops being chicken broilers, peanuts, and blueberries. Advanced Manufacturing – Situated between four interstates, our location is ideal for manufacturers who need convenient access to the Ports of Savannah and Brunswick, or to the interstate system. Wiregrass Georgia Technical College trains students in fields such as Aircraft Assembly, Mechatronics, CNC technology, and several others that fill the pipeline with trained workers in this cluster. Some of our manufacturers, among others, include PCC Airfoils and Diamond Cargo Trailers. A subcategory of advanced manufacturing is chemical manufacturing; eight firms in Coffee County manufacture chemicals, including Optima Chemical, one of the county’s largest employers. Another subcategory, metal fabrication, has nine firms in Coffee County, including Elixir Extrusions and Southwire. Advanced manufacturing companies in Coffee County, Georgia have a long history of success.
Aviation/Aerospace – Home to Douglas Municipal Airport with its 6,005-foot runway, Coffee County supports both general aviation and aerospace operations. PCC Airfoils currently manufactures aircraft and land-based gas turbine engine rotating blades at a facility adjacent to the airport, and county leaders are investing at Douglas Municipal Airport to create an aviation industrial park.
